Blue Leaders High Level Meeting Brussels March 2024 Ocean Voices Fellows, Vanessa Lopes and Sheena Talma, recently participated in the Blue Leaders meeting focusing on the ratification and implementation of the BBNJ agreement. Discussing Cross-Cultural Learning at MARE People and the Sea Conference Nippon Foundation-University of Edinburgh Ocean Voices Fellow, Mariana Caldeira, attended the recent MARE Conference and presented their latest research on the importance of cross-cultural learning in ocean governance. Historic Adoption of the BBNJ Agreement On June 19, 2023, a significant milestone was achieved at the United Nations headquarters in New York as the international community unanimously adopted a new UN treaty for the ocean. Immersive Experience at the Ocean Voices Retreat: Connecting, Collaborating, and Inspiring Change During the week of May 15th 2023, The Nippon Foundation-University of Edinburgh Ocean Voices Programme welcomed its international network to an exceptionally sunny Edinburgh, to foster connections, share knowledge and reflect on the programme’s journey throughout the past year.
