Voices in Ocean Governance Conference

Edinburgh, UK – July 1st 2024, Ocean Voices fellows presenting at Voices in Ocean Governance Conference.

During the first week of July 2024, Ocean Voices held the second annual conference of Voices in Ocean Governance. Ocean Voices fellows from around the globe came together to share their unique perspectives and expertise, and presented their research and participated in panel discussions:

Ms Alumita Talei Sekinairai presented her research on the Importance of Indigenous People and Traditional Knowledge for Ocean Conservation. 

Ms Munshidha Ibrahim presented her research on challenges & opportunities for strengthening sustainable fisheries management in the face of climate change - The story of the Maldives. 

Dr. Maila Guilhon presented her research on identifying and discussing needs, potentialities and obstacles for women from developing countries to flourish leadership skills and other relevant capacities for occupying positions in ocean decision-making. 

Ms Kathryn Audroing presented her research on examining the climate change impacts on marine turtles and their habitats to guide policies for cooperative management of highly migratory species.  

Ms Kalene Eck presented her research on enhancing the science-policy interface of ocean and coastal management in Belize & the Caribbean: Addressing challenges of identifying and providing relevant information for decision-making processes.

Ms Mariana Caldeira presented her research on identifying how the application of Traditional knowledge can enhance the contribution of least developing countries to the implementation of ABMTs and MPAs in areas beyond national jurisdiction. Identify how Traditional Knowledge is been integrated and applied in MPAs in Brazil.  

Mr Sergio Cambronero Solano presented his research on identifying opportunities and designing a strategy to allocate funding towards ocean technology capacity development and its integration to BBNJ and ISA frameworks. 

Ms Sheena Talma presented her research on better understanding the capacity gaps of deep-sea research in the Seychelles and Indian ocean.
