Developing the Plastics Treaty at INC-3

Ocean Voices Fellows, Gemma Nelson and Kathryn Audroing, recently participated in INC-3 in Nairobi to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution.

Between 13th and 19th November 2023, UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya hosted the third session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-3) , to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution by 2025. The same place where the historic United Nations Environment Assembly resolution to develop a Plastics Treaty was made.

Ocean Voices was represented by Fellows Gemma Nelson as part of the Tuvalu delegation and Kathryn Audroing as part of the Trinidad and Tobago delegation. Fellows participated in the INC Preparatory Meeting of the 11th November, their respective regional meetings for the Pacific-Small Islands Developing States and Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) of the 12th November, Alliance of Small Island States coordination meetings and the INC-3 Plenaries and Contact Group meetings from the 13th to 19th November, 2023.
