Beatriz Naranjo-Elizondo is joining Ocean Voices' Fellowship in October 2024 Beatriz Naranjo-Elizondo Beatriz is a Costa Rican marine biologist dedicated to advancing conservation through innovative technology. With expertise in fish ecology, fisheries research, and deep-water biodiversity, she integrates her scientific knowledge with web development, science communication, and public engagement, aiming to use interdisciplinary approaches to drive meaningful change in marine conservation. Beatriz holds a B.Sc. and Lic. in Biology from the Universidad de Costa Rica and a PgCert in Science Communication from The University of Edinburgh. She has worked as an independent consultant, collaborates on deep-sea research at the Universidad de Costa Rica, and is an active member of the NGO Colectivo Internacional Pelagos Okeanos. Through Ocean Voices, she is developing the "Costa Rican Deep Sea Knowledge Hub," an online platform designed to consolidate deep-sea data and enhance both regional and global marine conservation efforts. This project also aims to produce new peer-reviewed scientific knowledge on the biodiversity of critical deep-sea ecosystems in Costa Rica. During the fellowship, Beatriz will have a research focus on “Advancing deep-sea conservation and scientific knowledge through an integrated online platform and targeted research on critical marine ecosystems in Costa Rica”.
