Benit is an accomplished professional with a strong background in environmental management and sustainable development. She holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Policy and Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California, where she specializes in Natural Resources Policy and Management. Her academic journey included extensive work on climate change vulnerability assessments, solid waste and recycling, and renewable energy projects. Her passion for ocean governance came from her encounter with Professor Kristina Gjerde during an International Marine Law class. This experience deepened her interest in Strategic and Regional Environmental Assessment for proactive marine conservation and the sustainable management of ocean resources. She has since been actively involved in research to promote integrated ocean management in areas beyond national jurisdiction. Committed to fostering sustainable practices and advancing International Marine Policy, Benit continues to leverage her expertise to drive positive change in developing countries, particularly in climate change mitigation, renewable energy, and marine governance.

During the fellowship, Benit will have a research focus on the Strategic Environmental Assessments; a tool for identifying genetic biodiversity, enhancing International Collaboration and informing decision-making.
