Welcoming new Fellows to the Ocean Voices Fellowship Programme

The Nippon Foundation-University of Edinburgh Ocean Voices Programme is honoured to welcome new Fellows to its growing community of ocean change-makers.

2023/24 Ocean Voices Fellows

Ocean Voices is welcoming three new Fellows and extending three Fellowships from its first year to form a new cohort of six Fellows in its second year running. The Fellows bring a diversity of voices in gender, professional backgrounds, and geographic locations. From the Maldives, Brazil, Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, and Costa Rica, Ocean Voices is excited to continue growing its community and welcoming new developments as the programme flourishes.

The Fellowship Programme is designed to provide sustained professional development outcomes that meet the individual self-determined needs of early-career ocean professionals from low or middle-income countries, aiming to secure a sustainable ocean future. The nature of the Fellowship promotes a dynamic relationship where Fellows influence the programme's implementation.

This year, Ocean Voices will provide negotiation training to the Fellows to support their ability to meaningfully voice their perspectives at international governance fora and represent their values, areas of expertise, and countries.

In addition to this, Ocean Voices will offer ocean governance training, tailored professional development sessions, and mentors that match the Fellows' interests. Fellows will be encouraged and supported to attend international conferences, events, and negotiations and meet partners to ensure that the Fellowship supports both their professional development and the growth of the Fellows' network and community.

As 2023 comes to a close, Ocean Voices is grateful for its expanding network and looks forward to new endeavours in the coming year.
